Dynetics

Year Inducted: 2023

Dynetics, Inc., is a leading provider of responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific, IT solutions to national security, cybersecurity, space, and critical infrastructure sectors. With top-notch technical expertise and advanced manufacturing capabilities, Dynetics continues to pave the way for a host of weapons modernization programs to protect our nation’s warfighter, including indirect fires protection capability, directed energy, and hypersonics.

When Herschel Matheny and Dr. Steve Gilbert founded Dynetics in Huntsville in 1974, they envisioned creating a company of world-class experts in ballistic missile defense and radar systems. Over its nearly 50-year-history, Dynetics has grown to nearly 3,000 employees, the majority of whom work in Alabama, with locations in 10 other states. In 2020, Dynetics became a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, expanding its capabilities for customer-focused research, development, and rapid prototyping and further enabling investment in programs of national importance.

Throughout its history, Dynetics has built a reputation for deep technical expertise—and it is also known for its rich investments in innovation. In 1984, the company was the first to break ground in Cummings Research Park West in Huntsville, where it has spent decades expanding its footprint with innovative facilities such as the Solutions Complex and Gilbert Advanced Manufacturing Facility.

More recently, Dynetics opened the Aerospace Structure Complex in Decatur, Alabama, and invested in a brand-new electron-beam welding system— the largest in the Western Hemisphere—at its headquarters in Huntsville. Throughout its history, Dynetics has continued to build state-of-the-art facilities, bringing unmatched capabilities to its customers, expanding its footprint across Huntsville and North Alabama, and recommitting to invest in Alabama.

In addition, Dynetics prides itself on its culture of lifetime learning. In addition to investing in professional development for its employees, Dynetics seeks to strengthen the communities in which its employees live. The company has consistently been an advocate and supporter of community organizations across Alabama. From investing in North Alabama schoolchildren through the Schools Foundation of Huntsville, to continued partnerships with engineering programs at numerous universities across the state, Dynetics continues to make a lasting impact on students of all ages across Alabama.

Despite its growth nationwide, Dynetics remains a key driver of economic development in North Alabama and beyond. As it continues to excel as a leading provider of high-technology, mission-critical services and solutions, Dynetics is proud to call Alabama home.
